I came across a blog about a man talking about his experience on a trip. He briefly talked about how maps are extinct and how people refer to technologies instead. I previously talked about this on a class discussion board when I read chapter 2 of Information Systems Today: Managing the Digital World 5th Ed (Valacich; Schneider). It talked about disruptive innovations. Maps are surely marginalized and will forever be forgotten thanks to Google Maps, MapQuest, and other direction-giving-technologies (On-Star in my car)! Hey there. Glad you like the article. I didn't really mean to badmouth maps that much. I still think they're a great tool, just not always a viable option if you're going to be bouncing around from place to place with only a bag or two. A smart phone takes up far less room than dozens of maps.
